Joe Yaiullo – 12:30
Joe Yaiullo has a B.S. in Marine Science from LIU Southampton College’s marine science program, and worked for 8 years at the NY Aquarium in Brooklyn, New York as Senior Aquarist. In 1992, he began to shape his plan for a world-class aquarium on Long Island’s East End. In 2000, after toiling for eight long years, his plans and vision became a reality with the opening of Atlantis Marine World Aquarium in Riverhead, NY (now known as the Long Island Aquarium).
Joe, an admitted “Coralaholic”, currently feeds his ever increasing addiction with a 20,000 gallon live coral reef display. As in true coralaholic fashion, a much larger display is in the planning stages. Joe has been featured in many reef keeping books and magazines, has given lectures all over the world, was awarded The Distinguished Alumni Award from Southampton College and was president of the Long Island Reef Association, LIRA for 12 years.
Laura has been devoted to her career in the reef aquarium industry for over 13 years and has been a fish keeper for most of her life. In addition to her internship at the Steinhart Aquarium, she has worked on many sides of the trade including aquarium retail, wholesale and manufacturing and earned a B.S. in Marine Biology at Western Washington University.
Laura is the proud Owner and Co-Founder of ReefGen, a wholesale coral and fish aquaculture company in Riverhead, NY. ReefGen propagates a diverse selection of coral frags in collaboration with the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center. Laura’s focus and passion has been breeding Dwarf Cuttlefish (Sepia bandensis,) which are now being distributed through retailers across the country. She eagerly looks forward to future cephalopod breeding opportunities with bobtail squid, flamboyant cuttlefish, and more!
MAMAX supports marine related charities all over the world. Each year, our fundraising efforts are donated to a single charity that is voted on by the expo’s attendees. Read more about them below. Do you represent a charity not listed or know of one that should be considered? Email us with information so that our board can review the organization for next year.
This year we’re changing venues to a larger facility to accommodate more vendors, attendees, cars and activities! The Khedive Shriner’s Temple is located just off Greenbrier Parkway and I-64 at 645 Woodlake Dr, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Attendees coming from just about everywhere will find it easiest to take I-64 and get off at the Greenbrier Pkwy North 289A exit. Merge immediately to the left and take the first left onto Woodlake Dr. You’ll find the temple on the left. Free parking is available on a first come, first serve basis. Several restaurants and hotels are located within a 2 mile radius of the facility and we’ll be working to get out of town guests a group rate.
MAMAS has worked directly with the Hampton Inn Chesapeake to get a special rate for out of town guests until September 16th. Located less than a mile from our new venue in Chesapeake, The Hampton Inn offers breakfast, a pool and is just minutes from the Greenbrier area which is packed with restaurants and shopping locations. Rooms with both King and Double arrangements will be available for $75 a night (ends 9/16). Contact the hotel directly at 757-420-1550 to grab your room at a discount. Be sure to mention the Mid-Atlantic Marine Expo “Tradeshow” rate with MAMAS when you call.
